Everyone fears the high cost of college these days – and for good reason. College has never been as expensive as it is now. The high costs make college almost impossible for most “normal” people to pay for. For single moms who can barely afford to pay those bills, college may be simply out of the question without some sort of external help. Fortunately, this help can found through single mother grants and scholarships.
A grant is free money given to people in financial need. There are countless grants out there for you to snatch up: grants for new businesses, grants for fuel, grants for school, etc. One class of grant are single mother grants.
Single mom grants, like the name implies, are grants for mothers who are raising children by themselves. The government offers a wide variety of single mother grants, which can be found on their website.
Colleges, too, offer special grants for single moms going to school. It can be very easy to find these grants – if you spend some time looking around for them at a college’s financial aid office. Most colleges will offer some sort of financial aid for single mothers. This single aid offered by colleges, depending on the college, can be work study programs, free food, subsidized housing, day care support, tuition reduction, or even free money.
There’s also plenty of private scholarships and g rants to be had as well. Some private single mother scholarships can give out amounts over 10k. Keep in mind that there can be quite a lot of competition for the more popular private grants and scholarships. But with some looking around on your part online, you can find various private scholarship offers. Check them out and apply to as many as possible. There is money to be had here, if you look for it.
The key to finding grants is good old fashion work. The more work you do, the better your results will be. Finding a scholarship or grant that you qualify for can be a part time job in terms of effort, but that effort is worth it if you can actually manage to secure such a grant. Most people don’t realize that applying for grants is a bit of a numbers game. The more you apply for, the more chances you are putting out there that you will qualify for something. And with enough applications, you stand a good chance of getting at least one single mom grant.
